ABOUT MONOLAURIN

What is Monolaurin?
Monolaurin (aka glycerol monolaurate) is a medium chain fatty acid formed from lauric acid, and has a long history of supporting immune system health as an effective, all-natural antiviral, antibacterial, and antimicrobial supplement. Known for its wide-ranging capabilities in preventing, treating, and killing common enveloped viruses including influenza, herpes, Epstein-Barr, shingles, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), and is also effective against fungal, bacterial and yeast infections.

Monolaurin is used assist in the treatment of certain forms of viral infection, is an effective killer of bacteria, restores gut health, and generally boosts the immune system. Although monolaurin is approved by the FDA under GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe), it has not been evaluated as a treatment for any condition.

How is Monolaurin Made?
Monolaurin is made from extracting the lauric acid from pressed coconut oil, resulting in a pure form of soapy white powder called glycerol monolaurate (monolaurin). To achieve the equivalent dosage of this high potent extract, one would need to consume an impractical amount of coconut oil- that’s why Soltytan’s Monolaurin is the perfect dietary supplement.

How does Monolaurin actually work?
Research has shown that monolaurin is most effective against enveloped viruses, which have a fatty, exterior membrane. These types of viruses include influenza, herpes simplex, HIV, and other common viruses that affect human health.

Studies have suggested that monolaurin disrupts the lipid membranes of viruses, which can prevent them from attaching to healthy cells, replicating, and causing further damage. As a result of this disruption, the virus loses its binding power, causing the membrane envelope to break apart, ultimately stopping the viral infection and replication process. This is often compared to a soap-like effect within the host's internal environment.

Scientists hypothesize that monolaurin might disrupt virus replication by blocking DNA replication signals. In the lab, when monolaurin binds to the viral envelope, it makes the virus more recognizable to the immune system. (source)

Moreover, there is some evidence to suggest that monolaurin may help restore gut health by promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria and reducing the growth of harmful bacteria in the gut.

Is Monolaurin Safe?
Monolaurin is included on the FDA's Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) list (source) and is already widely used across the food industry.  Though side effects are possible with anything you ingest in any amount, monolaurin has an excellent safety profile.

The only risks associated with monolaurin are those related to the source it’s derived from, coconut oil, although serious allergic reactions to coconuts are quite rare. While monolaurin is nontoxic, it cannot be recommended to be taken if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

You are always advised before taking any supplement to consult with your health professional.

How long does it take to start seeing the benefits of Monolaurin?
Monolaurin is intended to be taken daily like a multivitamin for at least three to six months to support general immune health* and overall wellness*.

Does Monolaurin Contain Allergens?
Soltytan’s Monolaurin is free of wheat (gluten), all soy, dairy, or corn-derived ingredients. It is vegan, and does not contain any animal-derived ingredients.

What is the correct dosage of Soltytan’s Monolaurin?
The recommended dosage of monolaurin is anywhere from 1000 – 3000 mg (or 2 – 6 capsules) per day, although it is best to start at a single serving before working your way up. We do not recommend dosage exceeding 9000 mg per day.

However, if initial dosage is too high, a patient may experience short-term (a few days to a few weeks) exacerbation of mild symptoms due to the detoxification reaction within the body. This common and mild temporary response may be likened to a Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction. As the body detoxifies, it is not uncommon to experience flu-like symptoms: headache, joint and muscle pain, body aches, acne, itchy skin, mild rashes, skin flushing, sore throat, general malaise, sweating, chills, nausea, or other symptoms.

These symptoms are normal – and even healthy. Questions should be directed to your health professional and your intake level may need to be lessened.

Monolaurin is fat soluble and is best taken during or after a meal for best absorption.

Can Monolaurin be taken with other supplements or medications?
Yes, can be taken with other medications and supplements, but not all interactions can be predicted. It is best to consult with your health professional.
